Employers Should Be Excited About This STAR-Studded Workshop Series

Southern Indiana Works is thrilled about our newest initiative, STARS: Strategic Talent Attraction and Retention Series. Designed specifically for employers seeking to enhance their business and talent strategies, this transformative series offers practical insights and tools to attract and retain top talent. Spanning across all counties served by Southern Indiana Works, Floyd, Clark, Harrison, Crawford, Scott, and Washington. STARS consists of three dynamic workshops: Work Based Learning 101, Give Employers a Chance (or Two), and SoInAccess Employer Network. The best part? All workshops are completely free to attend, making them accessible to businesses of all sizes.

In the first workshop, Work Based Learning 101, employers will dive into the world of experiential learning opportunities. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of work-based learning programs, including internships, apprenticeships, and on-the-job training. Discover how these initiatives can enhance workforce development, create a skilled talent pipeline, and drive innovation within your business. Unleash the potential of hands-on learning experiences and unlock the talents of future employees.

Building on the foundation of effective talent attraction, the second workshop, Give Employers a Chance (or Two) will be facilitated by Krieg DeVault LLP Labor and Employment attorneys. This workshop explores strategies for cultivating an environment best for talent retention. Employers will engage in discussion of the compliance landscape surrounding equal employment opportunity (EEO) laws and drug-free and other workplace safety laws. Explore ways to develop robust, employee-responsive policies to support all workers, including members of historically underrepresented groups and those needing a second chance. Our discussion will cover the basics of federal EEO and workplace safety laws, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Drug-Free Workplace Act, and the Occupational Safety and Health Act, as well as their state law counterparts. We will also explore available incentives for employers to develop innovative recruitment and retention strategies, such as Indiana’s “second chance” law and the Work Opportunity Tax Credit program.

The final workshop, SoInAccess Employer Network, equips employers with the tools and resources to create accessible and inclusive workplaces. SoInAccess is Southern Indiana Work's newest asset to bring an untapped pipeline of talented employees to those hiring and help all members of our community find a career regardless of any circumstances. Our hope is to assist employers in recruiting from underrepresented populations that will benefit their organization. This is an incredible opportunity to learn how individuals with disabilities, justice-involved individuals, and newcomers to America can help meet an organization’s talent demands. Attendees can expect to discover where to find this available talent, how to recruit and retain them, and how to ensure they have the necessary skills to succeed.

Southern Indiana Works believes in providing equal opportunities for employers of all sizes and backgrounds. The STARS Workshop Series is offered completely free of charge, ensuring accessibility for businesses looking to level up their talent attraction and retention strategies. By reaching all counties served by Southern Indiana Works, the organization demonstrates its commitment to driving economic growth and prosperity throughout the region.

To secure a seat in the STARS Workshop Series, interested employers are encouraged to visit the Southern Indiana Works website. Registration is simple and hassle-free, allowing participants to reserve their spot in the workshop(s) of their choice. As spaces are limited, early registration is highly recommended to ensure a valuable learning experience.

Beginning this year, SIW committed to "Quarterly Outreach" projects. This winter season we decided on Toys for Tots . This is a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserves who distributes toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas. And this year marks the 75th anniversary! Each person participated by bringing in one to three new, unwrapped toys . Children who receive toys are of all ages and vary from young to pre-teen which gives participants a wide range of toy options. Toys For Tots suggests shopping like you would for a child you know and considering what they might like.
