Southern Indiana Works recently hosted an Apprenticeship and Trades Fair to commemorate the U.S. Department of Labor's 9th Annual National Apprenticeship Week (NAW).
The event, held on November 16th , was a great success, showcasing the region's commitment to fostering workforce development through apprenticeships and trade programs.
The Apprenticeship and Trades Fair aimed to highlight the importance of apprenticeships in building a skilled workforce. By bringing together employers, industry professionals, and aspiring apprentices, Southern Indiana Works created a platform for meaningful connections and collaborations. The fair featured a diverse array of trades including exhibitors such as Amatrol, Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), Boyd CAT, Built to Succeed IN Careers in Construction, IKORCC Carpenters Union, Indiana University Southeast, IUOE Local 181 JATP, Ivy Tech Community College, Jim O’Neal Ford, Meeks Hardwood Flooring, Mister “P” Express, Southeast PHCC, and TARC. Having these incredible companies and businesses provided attendees with a comprehensive overview of potential career paths.
The event's success was evident in the enthusiastic participation of both employers and apprentices. Employers had the opportunity to connect with talented individuals eager to enter their respective industries, while apprentices gained insights into potential career trajectories and the skills required for success. The fair allowed for conversations where employers were able to share valuable information about apprenticeship programs and career opportunities.
Throughout the fair, success stories from individuals who had embarked on apprenticeship journeys were showcased. These stories served as inspiration for aspiring apprentices, highlighting the tangible benefits of hands-on learning and the potential for long-term career growth. Hearing firsthand from those who had successfully navigated apprenticeships added a personal touch to the event, reinforcing the value of such programs.

Southern Indiana Works hopes to replicate this event later in 2024. We are expectant that continued awareness of apprenticeships and trades will be beneficial to our community.
